Customer Reviews

FUN!We do a lot of parties with grandkids and was looking for a game to interest everyone. This definitely fits the bill. I thought it might be dumb but it's really pretty clever. It was a little confusing from the instructions at first (especially with children DYING to play!!) but it's very simple. The spatulas are nice and sturdy, the pancakes stay on if you're a LITTLE bit careful and the cards mix it up each time. It's stunningly easy to grab the wrong pancake or get "out of order" - so it might SEEM like 1 team will definitely win, when suddenly they've made a mistake they need to fix. Adorable how happy the kids are when they beat grandma/grandpa! VERY high quality game! 5Serious this is great! -unpaid review! My boys absolutely love this game! My sons are 4 years old and almost 2 months old. The oldest thinks this game is the best. My youngest loves it as well even though he does more of a free-build haha. The pancakes are puffy but easy to stack with a slight challenge which is good for motor skills and teach your kids that sometimes things are difficult but usually you can over come and figure it out. My oldest had no problem at all getting them to stack though. He was able to speed walk while balancing the pancake on his spatula with no frustrations. This game is super cute and perfect for kids 3-5 years old. I'm sure even 6-7 year olds would find it fun. 5Great game for active kids!I am a school-based speech therapist (working with K-5th grade) and I received this game gratis from Educational Insights in exchange for an honest review."Pancake Pile-Up" is a fun movement game that is great for working on sequencing and teambuilding skills. The object of this game is to replicate stacks of different-flavored pancakes shown on a card by putting a pancake on a spatula and racing it from the griddle to the plate. Whoever can do so the fastest without making a mistake is declared the winner (or the server who will earn the greatest tip). What is great about this game is that it can be played with larger groups (2-12 players, ages 4 and up), making it a great choice for a social skills group or birthday party. Players are divided into two teams of servers. The pancakes on the griddle are placed next to the order cards approximately 15 feet away from the plates, or the customer's table. The game starts by an order card being turned over - servers need to replicate the pattern by finding and stacking matching pancakes. They take turns racing the correct pancake from the griddle to the customer's table. The race concludes when a team manages to complete their pancake stack and places the butter patty on top. The other team will check to ensure no errors were made.If you work in a setting where you lack the necessary space (many speech therapists are confined to broom-closet-sized speech rooms ), you can easily modify this game by just doing it all in one spot. The way we did it was simply by placing the plate next to the griddle. When a student was done with their turn, the next student had to figure out which pancake would have to be next in the line-up. This worked really well and my 3rd grade SDC students still had fun! If you do have the space, this game is especially great for very active students who respond well to gross motor activities. Students really have to pay attention to what the other members on your team are doing and be vigilant in regards to which step they are on.We also practiced some basic social skills / problem-solving: if the pancake falls off the spatula, should you use your hands to pick it up and spread your germs on it? Or should you get a new pancake? What might happen if you touch someone else's food? Would you want to eat food that has fallen onto the ground or was touched by someone else's germy hands? Why not? etc. This game can be used in a multitude of ways to promote language and other developmental skills. Here are some ideas:---Sequencing: You can work on sequential vocabulary with this game -- "First we put the blueberry pancake on the plate. Which pancake is next?"---Pretend Play: You can simply use the pancakes, plates, and spatula in play therapy! The pancakes and spatula are very durable and should hold up well.---Counting: You can have students count how many strawberries / blueberries / chocolate chips are on each pancake or how many pancakes are in your stack.---Social Skills / Teamwork: The relay race creates a wonderful opportunity for teamwork, as well as good sportsmanship.---Vocabulary: This game is great for working on vocabulary terms such as stack, spatula, griddle, plain, flavor, etc.---Basic Concepts: You can also work on basic concepts - "The banana pancake is between the plain pancake and the strawberry pancake."---Memory: Memory skills are exercised as students have to remember which step they are on.---Motor skills: Students will get a great exercise in balance and coordination in this game. It became especially challenging to balance the pancakes as stacks got taller!I will definitely be using this game for my social skills group for team-building! This is a great addition for any special education setting! I also uploaded some customer images, please take a look! 5This game is great however I was disappointed to see that I did ...This game is great however I was disappointed to see that I did not receive the correct game pieces. There are supposed to be 10 pancakes; 2 blueberries, 2 chocolate chips, 2 plain, 2 bananas and 2 strawberries. It is important to have 2 of each as it is a competitive 2 team or 2 player type of game. Each team needs to have the same amount of matching pancakes. In my box, I received 3 blueberries and 1 chocolate chip. The other pancakes were correct. We cannot play this game competitively now that we are missing a chocolate chip and have 1 extra blueberry. 2Fast-paced game for kids!Pancake Pile-Up is a unique game that combines game pieces with doing an actual relay! A card is drawn and players (or teams of players) have to make a stack of pancakes that matches the card. There are an assortment of 5 different kinds of pancakes, such as strawberry, chocolate chip, and plain. The unique part of this relay game is that the pancakes should be at least 15' from where the players do their plating, so kids will be shuttling back and forth as they have to remember what pancake to get and work to keep their pancakes from falling off their spatulas!Game setup is simple, since everything is in the box. Simply have your deck of cards ready and provide the starting players with a spatula. First person or team to finish their stack (complete with a pat of butter) wins!My kids and I love the element of excitement in this game, where they having to get back and forth between the "kitchen" and the plates. Because they are trying to keep a pancake balanced on their spatula, it discourages kids from actually running.Pancake Pile-Up teaches kids to work together as a team, to focus and remember items and patterns. It makes for a great rainy-day game when kids are stuck inside but want to have some fun playing games. It gets them moving around, and I'm pretty sure there it gets their adrenaline going!Disclosure: I received this game free of charge in exchange for an honest review. 5Pretty disappointed in this gamePretty disappointed in this game. The whole point is to pile up the pancakes in the order indicated on the playing card. But these are over-stuffed with air and they keep falling from the pile. We live in 5200 ft, and I've seen other comments that people at altitude have the same issues. Seems like something that could have been foreseen and addressed. 2A game that can be expanded and enhanced to challenge all ages.My five-year-old boy thinks this game is okay while my three-year-old boy loves it. I like it because it's a game that you can always add more challenges if it gets stale or too easy. I set it up with a 3,4, and 8 years old where they had to work together and "beat the clock" to get an order in. Once they did that, I made the course longer, had them walk backward, go around obstacles. I added a little theater to it by leaving them "reviews" on their service like, "3 stars -- service was prompt but I found carpet hairs in my stack." When they started to argue or one got a little bossy, I reminded them they had to work together to get the job done. So five stars for a game that is very flexible and expandable. At the very least, it serves as play food for a pretend kitchen. 5My 4 year olds LOVE it!As long as no pieces get lost, this game is AWESOME. My 4 year old twins LOVE to run back and fourth across the living room, building their pancake piles, while my job (perfect for a tired mom) is to shuffle the card deck and then say, "Ready, set, go!" while I sit there and watch them race back and fourth. They get exercise, laughs, and get to problem-solve, and I get to just sit and watch them have fun. Granted, it is a winner/loser game, so if you've got a preschooler or toddler who throws a fit when they lose, this will, inevitably, happen. However, that doesn't change the fact that the kids can still have fun and get a little exercise before that happens. The one downside is that only two kids can play at a time, so if you have more than two kids, you'll need to buy additional games (there are only enough pancakes for two piles in each round) and once a piece gets lost, you're out of luck. That said, if your kids like to play with pretend food, the pancakes and butter pats and spatulas can easily be repurposed to the pretend kitchen when they outgrow the game or if pieces get lost and you don't want to replace them. For a parent of multiples, this game is AWESOME--since the kids are at the same learning level, they're equal competitors and it keeps them busy AND they can play it by themselves (though mine prefer a grown-up to do the official "Ready, set, go!") I highly recommend this game. 5Great game for many purposes!Fun game for kids. I played with a 9 year old and she loved it. Cannot wait to use in my career as a Certifed Occupational Therapist working with preschooler's with special needs. Incorporates gross/fine motor skills, motor planning, visual motor, Sensory/Vestibular stimuli, visual memory, grasp, and even more skills to list. Fun game that can be used for so many different purposes. Fun playing. 4Great game for SLPsI am a speech pathologist working with students in preschool - 6th grade.I don't play this game according to the instructions; instead, I modify it depending on the group of students I have. For my older or higher functioning students, I have them pick a recipe card to copy, as well as a plate and spatula. Then we say "ready, set, go" and it's a race to see who creates their recipe first. This is typically used as a quick reward once they're done with their speech work, and one round lasts less than a minute. For my lower-functioning students, I use it as a listening game. One student is the boss (holding a recipe card), while the other one is the chef. The boss has to tell the chef which pancake goes first, next, next, etc. Good to work on with little ones who are practicing using clear speech or certain sounds, or learning prepositions, (first, last, top, bottom).I'd definitely recommend this to any SLPs out there! Very versatile game! 5
