Customer Reviews

It might be that he's a little too young for this activity because I had to put the pieces together (he used too much wood glue)I bought these for my 5 year old nephew because he likes cars and likes to put things together. It might be that he's a little too young for this activity because I had to put the pieces together (he used too much wood glue) he got bored. He did like to paint them, though he never got around to putting on the stickers. I would recommend this product for older children, and I'm giving it 4 stars (I hardly give 5 star ratings) because it is a nice activity set builder. Glue is included with the project (but I used another type of wood glue). 4The wood pieces are nicely cut and my nephews and niece each loved putting ...The wood pieces are nicely cut and my nephews and niece each loved putting together their own little car. The 8 and 10 year old had no problem making them independently and the 4 year old and I worked together on her car. The quality is excellent and the kit has everything you need. 5If your expectations are low, you might be happyAfter doing a few of the free wooden build kits at the Home Depot Kids Work Shops, I felt encouraged to get online and find more kits that the kids and I could do together. Then the box sat on a shelf for a year until I got around to finally opening it.Mommy needed Jason Momoa. I still hadn't seen Aquaman, and I knew there was no way the kids would let me watch it during daylight hours unless I found a way to keep them occupied. We had spent most of the morning outdoors together, but they were still bursting with energy. I decided to compromise.I put cardboard down on the coffee table and brought out this Build and Paint Your Own Wooden Cars kit. Each of the three cars was neatly packaged in its own bag. The instructions seemed pretty straightforward. I showed the kids the instructions and how to make sure all the pieces were there. They were. Great!I pressed play on the movie, thinking I could watch it while helping the kids (ages 4 to 6) put these together. It's a good thing that I wasn't interested in the plot, because these cars were not as simple as they had seemed. There are three cars, three sets of stickers, and three sets of paint. Why does it only come with two paint brushes? Fortunately, I had some of my own that could be used. There was a good selection of paint colors, but they were tough to get open. Also, keep in mind that the white paint is actually the glue. It does have a label on it, but your child won't pay attention to that. There is no extra brush for the glue. I ended up using some school glue in the squeeze bottle instead. The instructions have you assembling before you paint, but if you are planning on using multiple colors on your cars, I would suggest painting first and waiting to dry.The fenders don't line up right, and it's a little frustrating, especially when trying to guide small children through doing it. I ended up having them apply the glue and then I put the pieces together. We took a popcorn break while things dried and tried watching Aquaman together. "No, that's not Ariel. I don't know why they don't have fins. Not just their own, but they swim in our poop too, so it's no wonder they are so upset with surface dwellers. I don't know if they take their outfits off to potty. No Hulk isn't in this one."Once everything was painted, assembled, and dried, it was time for the stickers. Some of the sticker sizes were off. The tire stickers, for example, were all bigger than the wheels, which made them pointless and annoying. Some stickers also fell off.As for the function of the race cars . Well, they won't be winning any races. The wheels spin awkwardly, they barely manage to roll, and one had a wheel come off on the first attempt to use it.This kit has a lot that is wrong with it, but what it does get right, is time with the kids doing something they enjoy. Yes, I did have to look away from Momoa abs more than I had hoped, but even with as frustrating as these cars were, it was worth it. I wouldn't buy them again, and it's no fun when you have to tell your kids they are more for decoration than play, but it's still nice seeing the kids with that sense of accomplishment when it's finished.Another positive was that the paint they spilled on the table cleaned up easily, and it also washed right off their skin. So at least it has that going for it. 3Hands Down The Best Art Project For Race Car Lovers!Hands down the BEST summer project my son has completed!!!! He is 6 years old and needed minimum guidance with putting the car parts together and gluing them. The best part was painting them! After they dried, he placed the stickers on them. It was fun for both the parent and adult and he was so happy when they were complete so he could play with them. The tires roll! Everything works and the cars look AMAZING!!! I will defintely buy this again as a birthday or Christmas present for one of his friends. 5Fun to put together. This is a fun set that my son enjoys working on with his dad. The cars are fun to put together and paint. My only complaint is the stickers. It comes with stickers to turn these creations into rescue vehicles with lights, sirens, etc but they don't stay on well. They kept falling off when he was first showing me the car he made and if he tried to play with it. We let them sit for awhile but even now when I move the car to clean the dresser the stickers fall right off. Fun craft otherwise. Perhaps you could paint the details you want on. 4Missing parts...Two of my grandchildren are happily painting, assembling and gluing their cars together. They ll be ready to roll soon. The third is hugely disappointed that their car is missing the dowels for the wheels, so will have to wait until we can fabricate the missing parts. Overall it s a fun project for two and a test of patience for the third. 2Mostly very goodBought this for my car obsessed 3 year old. He loved painting it and helping with glue. He could not wait for it to be finished and then enjoyed sticking stickers on. There was not enough paint for all the cars and the stickers come off very easily which was disappointing. We also had hoped the cars would not all be the same, but they are all the same. However that said, for a first modeling kit for a child it is very good as long as you have some extra paint and are not too worried about the stickers. My son did really like it although didn't want to do all the cars as there was no difference between them... we put one away for another time. 4Unbelievably poor constructionFenders are not the same size/shape as the body.Hole in the wheels are not in the center of the wheel.Axle holes were not clean so axle would not freely rotate.Wheel decal bigger than wheel so wheel doesn't roll evenly.Absolutely terrible production and very frustrating to try to assemble. 1Great quality. One suggestion is to glue all the ...Great quality. One suggestion is to glue all the pieces together before painting. This allows kids to paint the cars a bit easier. Also gluing it the night before eliminates excited kids from having to wait for the glue to dry before beginning.Paint dries quickly and a drop of wood glue on the wheels axels add an extra layer of security. We can see these lasting quite a while. 4Fun activityThese were surprisingly fun to do with an 8 year old. Do note that you have to do them in several sittings, since you have to wait for the glue to dry after you assemble and before you finish decorating. Also, one sheet of stickers (out of three) was mis-printed, so the cuts and the stickers didn't line up, making them useless. We only made two the cars, so it wasn't a crisis, but it was slightly annoying. 4
