One mad mamaI ordered this and it doesnt even work. I was extremely disappointed since I grew up with glow worms they were my favorite as a kid. I was excited to have one for my daughter but soon as I turned it on it didn't even work so I changed the batteries and nope. Nothing. Thanks for the defective product. Will change rating if I receive a replacement and it actually works 1Well, it sucks to say the least!We needed a spare glow worm to have at my parents house for my son. This one smells bad (not like a factory/warehouse even, just a bad gross smell that I can't place with anything to help describe it) and it won't Velcro shut all the way. The piece that goes inside the body for the battery/sound is too big and doesn't fit right. It seriously leaves a gap in the closure which is a great thing on a kids item. Definitely not pleased with my purchase. The sound is even different. The music is completely different and louder so it's not exactly what I'd call soothing. 1So-soI have a Walmart exclusive version of this Gloworm for my daughter and she loves it. I m sending her to preschool in December so I bought this Amazon to send to school with her. I just received this worm 30 minutes ago. I took pictures of both worms for comparison (Green: Walmart, Blue: Amazon). The first thing I notice is the amazon one is smaller and less pluffy than the Walmart version. The volumes on both are about the same, but the light from Amazon is brighter and I think it ll distract my daughter more than soothing her to sleep. They both play same melodies and stay for 10 minutes.Since I got this Amazon for $9 on lightning deal so I can t complain about the price for what I get, but I definitely would buy the Walmart version again if I need to. 3So sad that Playskool changed this dearly loved classicIn general, this product is still a good bedtime snuggle toy. BUT this new version we got for our granddaughter to replace her old, classic, blue one that got ruined in Hurricane Harvey, doesn't have the same wonderful artwork on the face, isn't as padded and, more importantly, doesn't have the same gentle nursery rhyme soundtrack that her old one had. It has more of a classical music theme now, fine for Baby Einstein toys and CD's, but not for this particular product. It is also louder. Our daughter was so disappointed that we couldn't find her daughter a replacement for the old classic one, even on eBay, that she grew up with and dearly loved. 2BIG HIT with infant and toddler both!We absolutely LOVE the glow worm. Our 3 month old got the pink one for Christmas, she really really likes it, she just stares at it and falls asleep! When her two year old brother saw it, he just had to have it. So we immediately ordered the blue one through Amazon. This glow worm is my toddlers new best friend! He loves to stick it in the back of his dump truck and drive around with the music playing. But he also loves this thing for bedtime too! He hops in bed and grabs his glow worm and just hugs him and falls asleep. Even in the middle of the night when he sometimes wakes up, he no longer calls out "mama mama mama" he just grabs his glowworm and turns it on. It's pretty cool! It also has a very short battery life.Like very very short.But alas, worth it. 4It's NOT the same as the one from a prior years.I purchased this item shortly after my son was born (summer 2016), and then again recently (fall 2017). The original one played soft soothing lullabies that were pleasant to hear over the baby monitor. The new ones (I bought 3 all from different websites) hoping to find one that plays the original music. All three are much louder, have different music, and make me cringe to listen to them over the monitor without during down the volume. I don't think it does as good of a job soothing my son to sleep, as I hear it 3-4 times over and over instead of 1-2 times with the original. EVERYWHERE, I look the videos that advertise this glow worm play the OLD music. So, while my son still likes it, it's not as good as the original.BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL MUSIC! PLEASE!! 3Super Cute!!!My 18 month old absolutely love this! He wants to sleep with his little buddy every night and it's the first thing he looks for when he wakes up in the mornings. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it seems a little too bright for night time and it sort of keeps him up a little longer due to the brightness. But other than that, everything else is great, he's super cute, my son loves him and the item came quickly and in clean working condition. If you are even considering buying this, you should just go ahead and do it. If your little one ends up loving it as much as mine, it is worth every penny to seen them smile when they turn on his light! 4A must-have for our bedtime routine - and better than competitorsMy 1-year-old son loves his new Gloworm! It quickly became an effective, and there for essential, part of his bedtime routine.The short review: Buy it!Pros:- Machine washable- Allows you to choose light-only or light-and-music modes (unlike the Fisher-Price options)- No history of fire/smoking issues - then failure to recall - like the Seahorse competitor- Acceptable battery life (average of 3 pushes per day lasts about a month for us)Cons:- No volume adjustment (but taping over speaker side of box likely to make it quieter - I like very quiet)- Middle is a bit harder than I'd like due to the music box inside. I don't think it's any worse than the competitors.The long review:My son has been using the Gloworm for every nap time and bedtime for about 2 months now and he's just over 1 year old. He has long had troubles going to sleep when we put him down (and going back to sleep in the night). I discovered that when I flipped on his portable nightlight while he was fighting sleep, it would distract him from crying and he'd often go to sleep before it automatically shut off. Unfortunately that light is made of a harder plastic - I didn't want to leave it in the crib with him to roll on, plus when he decided to drop it out of his crib, I worried it would break it. Furthermore, a tiny switch on the bottom means that it's impossible for my son to turn it on himself (and will be for years). All this led me to shop around for some sort of baby-friendly, baby-activated nightlight on a timer.Though I looked briefly at other brands/products, I spent the most time looking at my top 3 choices: this Gloworm, Fisher-Price Soothe and Glow Seahorse and Fisher-Price Soothe and Glow Giraffe.1. Why I didn't choose the Seahorse: Distrust of Fisher-Price, inability to do a light-only mode (without music), and 50% higher cost.With the most reviews on Amazon, I thought this would be the front-runner. Not so much. You may have heard about the older version (3 batteries) of the Seahorse having many instances of melting and smoking at the battery compartment, Fisher-Price choosing not to recall them, and then F-P quietly pulling them from the shelves (see reviews on Amazon and/or Google it to see more about that). Even though they have released a newer version, F-P lost my trust because of the way they handled the situation. I was hesitant about the Seahorse to start with but I would have gone with it if I really thought it was the best option. The deal-breaker for me was that you cannot use it with just the light (with music off) like you can with the Gloworm. The Seahorse also cost about 50% more than the Gloworm. I'd need to feel like I was getting a superior product to justify that extra cost.2. Why I didn't choose the Giraffe: Distrust of Fisher-Price, inability to do a light-only mode (without music), light turns off long before the music does. I also prefer the long, thin shape of the Gloworm and Seahorse for easier snuggling. Price is about the same as the Gloworm.3. I chose the Gloworm primarily because it allowed me the option of a light-only (no music) mode that I prefer to use for middle of the night wake-ups (I actually thought I'd never use the music mode but my baby does seem to like it for settling down to sleep at night). I also feel like it's a safer toy from a company I trust more than F-P in this category.I wish I had discovered this sooner. I will definitely use it from day one with the next baby.Update: 4.5 months later, we still love this. We use it for light only now and at some point in the last few months, my son started turning it on himself. He especially loves to turn it on when he wakes up in the morning. It gives him enough light to play around in his crib until I go get him.Update: He's 22 months now and he's still loving it!Update 12/8/17: It's been 2 years since my initial review and my son just turned 3. He still sleeps with this every night and we'd still highly recommend it. I recently tried using the music feature because he was struggling to get to sleep all of a sudden. It was the extra boost he needed and has significantly improved his willingness to stay in bed after bedtime.Update 10/9/2019: My son turns 5 next month and this is still a required part of bedtime for him. Hard, not cuddly.Smaller than the real ones!! My MIL bought this same glow worm in the store by her and after 1.5 yrs of use it stopped glowing. My little one LOVES the glow worm to cuddle and sleep with, so when it played music but stopped glowing, it was rough and I immediately ordered this replacement. However, I was disappointed to see that even though it physically looks the same, it is about 25% smaller than the one we have. As a result there s almost no cushion. It s like hugging just the battery box. Luckily I was able to remove the glow compartment in this one (which is the same size) and just change that out with the one we have. I would not buy this otherwise. Get them in the stores instead. 2
