Customer Reviews

This has been a good Gift purchase! This is an enjoyable card game for the whole family (just not the younger ones). It takes some thought and strategy, but we really enjoy the game with friends and our older children. We have it and have given it as gifts too. 5If you like Pinochle, you'll like thisA little bidding, a little strategy in leading suits, following suits, and throwing off.If you like Pinochle, you'll like this. Or Euchre with some bidding. Doesn't require deep thought -- it isn't Bridge! You can accommodate an odd number of players. The included score sheets are tiny but one can download the PDFs online. 4WONDERFUL CARD GAMEThis game is a lot of fun especially if you are 6 players. My children and sometime grand children come over once a week to play this game. Lots of laughs and lots or disappointments when you think you have made a trick and it all goes down the drain. Super wonderful and keeps you on your toes to see who wins the highest points at the end of the total game. Highly recommended! 5Great game, 2 broken biddersGreat game but 2 of our bidding wheels came broken/too loose to use :(My 9 and 11 year old love the game though - fun for the entire family! But I purposely paid for the Deluxe edition so a but disappointed to get faulty parts. 3Favorite game everWe love love this game. It is so challenging, and feels a bit like bridge. The wild cards and jesters puts many twists and surprises in the game. Can't say enough about this game. The score pad is small, but you can buy a larger version separatly. Cards are not great, would pay more for a good plastic card. 5Absolutely a great game that's a whole lot of fun to play. This is one of the most fun card games I've played in a long while. This is a standard set of cards with two additions of four each, or 60 cards total. Jesters always lose and Wizards always win. In the first hand, you get one card. Top card gets turned over for trump. Person to the left of the dealer starts. First off, pick the number of tricks you're going to take. After all have picked, you play the hand out. If you get the number of tricks you said, you get 20 points plus the number of tricks. If you're wrong, you lose ten points for each trick you were off. Next person deals with one more card per hand until you've played with all the cards and no trump. The deluxe version adds score keepers which allows you to easily see (without asking the score keeper) how many tricks you said you will take. It also allows variances. On the first hand, there's one trick. If you're last and two others said they're taking the trick and you've got a non-trump ten, most likely you aren't taking the trick, so you can safely bid 0. With the wheels, you can all announce your bids simultaneously, and it makes it much harder. With seven tricks, one wizard and nothing much else, if the others have claimed 6, picking just one is much easier. This does have updated rules. When I got my first set of Wizard cards, the rules said "Wizards always win, jesters always lose." We've had several times with multiple wizards played. We've determined the first wizard wins. We've never hit all jesters, although we've had two played upon occasion. New rules did match our house rules for multiple wizards.Overall, great for most ages. I know a friend's daughter played at 6 and enjoyed herself although the competition might have been a bit different than all adults. Overall, it can be very "work together" or very "mess with your neighbor", it all depends on the group you're playing with. If you can get three or more together, I highly recommend Wizard. The Deluxe version does give a bit more than the regular, but you might be better off starting with the standard version and work your way up although the price difference isn't much. 5A New favorite for a Game playing family! This is a GREAT game! I'll admit, when my son first introduced it to us, and we were playing our first game, I was definitely skeptical. Honestly, I only thought it was okay. But then we played again, and it "clicked". This is so different than other games because of the wagering aspect (and I am not talking money, just how many hands you will take). Sure there is luck, but there is a lot of strategy and you have to watch how other people are playing too, so it is very engaging. It is now one of our favorite games! Oh - and I think paying the extra six bucks to get the deluxe is totally worth it. The only difference is those little wager wheels - but it makes it so much easier to remember and see what everyone chose. So I would go for it!! 5Great game for a very low costI became acquainted with Wizard on a recent holiday with a group of fellow travelers. I bought the game immediately upon my return. I think its a great game for the following reasons:Can accommodate a fairly wide number of players (I've played with from 3 to 8 players),The rules are pretty easy for people of all ages to understand,While the game is not complicated, it does have some very strategic thinking opportunities,The only thing really necessary to play is the deck of cards - the score pad and bid discs are nice but not necessary. Very easy to pack for trips, etc.Adults and age 10+ can play on an equal footingThe game can be shortened if time is a constraint with no impact on the fun. For example 6 players can agree before the start to play only 6 rounds instead of the normal 10 or 4 players can go 10 rounds instead of the normal 15, etc. 5Magically Fun!We first played Wizard last summer and enjoyed the game so much that I bought three games for myself and two friends. Played with a regular deck plus 4 Wizard and 4 Jester wild cards, it's a thinking game with a enough luck so that every player has a chance to win. Everyone I know who has tried it loves this game. Great game for adults and older children alike. No one will be bored! The game plays out a bit like Hearts or Dirty Eights, so kids can jump right in if they've played these games before. The first round one card is dealt to each person and one card is turned up which becomes the trump suit. Each player has to decide if they will will win the round. They bid the number of tricks they think they will take ( 0 or 1 in this case ) and then the cards are played. If you bid the correct amount, you get points. If you take too many tricks or too few tricks, you are penalized. Each round, more cards are dealt until the entire deck is dealt out. This game becomes wickedly fun because no one knows where the Wizards and Jesters are... in a players hand, or in the deck. There is nothing tougher than taking that extra trick after all your careful planning. It is recommended for children 10 and over. We played with my nieces, who are 9 and 12 but play and love card games and they both needed to play with an adult for the first time. They really loved playing and I could see the gears turning in their heads as they learned card strategy. I think they would have great fun with their friends, but it really teaches strategy and card sense. In a way, it's a very good introduction to bridge and other adult card games that both the children and adults can enjoy together. 5they have been VERY improved and are great! I also purchased an oversized score pad separately ...We are a Wizard-playing family. We started with the basic deck, and at some point upgraded to an older Deluxe version. The basic deck lives at our grandparent's house, the old Deluxe version lives at my mom's house. I purchased this to have one at my house, and was expecting the spinners to be similar to our older version... they have been VERY improved and are great! I also purchased an oversized score pad separately that is a lot easier to use than the small one that comes with it.This game is tough to find in the game sections of stores - you really need to go to a specialty game store to find it - but I was really having trouble. So glad I got it on Amazon! 5
